APRIL-DECEMBER 2000 Apr 2000: LENTEN ACTIVITIES Five Brother Knights acted as apostles during the Lenten Day celebration. Aug 19: CY 2000-2001 INSTALLATION OF OFFICERS The new set of officers headed by Worthy Grand Knight Jovencio "Ben" Lara was officially installed on August 19, 2000 at the Central Park Gym. The installation rites began with a mass celebrated by Father Swamy. Brother Knights made up a respectable choir that evening. Families and friends attended the affair which was very successful. A hearty feast which doubled as a Birthday Party for Sir Knight Lando Matuguinas followed at the Grand Knight's residence. Aug 20: Fourth Degree Promotions Congratulations to the new patriots of Bangkal-Council. There were three of them who were advanced to the Fourth Degree Assembly in a rite held last August 20, 2000 in Toril, Davao City. Sir Knight FRANCO ALTIZO Sir Knight HERMOSO "Nonoy" MATUGUINAS Sir Knight RICHARD UAYAN Aug 27: Children received Rosaries and Prayer Guides from Knights In a simple ceremony held at Presentation of Mary (PM) Chapel, K of C 8824 Knights assisted by the PM Sisters presented Rosaries and Prayer Guides to 60 children last August 27, 2000. The activity was well-attended by Brother Knights as well as volunteers from the Mary Rivier Associates (MRA) group. Sep 3: Eight New Knights Exemplified Eight New Knights joined Bangkal-Davao Council 8824 last Sunday, September 3, 2000. Gereon Rentura Sep 24: Visit and Gift Giving (groceries) at Missionaries of Charity Groceries were offered to the Sisters of Missionaries of Charity as support to the Home of Love for the Sick and Malnourished Children last September 24,2000. The home is located in Juna Subdivision and has provided unwavering love and care for abandoned infants and children. Sep 29: Noodles feeding for 50 people at Project Hope, Central Park Subdivision It was a busy, noisy, but orderly feeding of noodles for children at Project Hope, Central Park Subdivision last September 29, 2000. Brother Knights carefully scooped freshly cooked noodles from two big "kalderos" and offered them to the children and their guardians. There were about 50 of them. Oct 08: Mass offering at PM Chapel The beginning of a hopefully continuous affair of the Knights to the PM Sisters Chapel. Our Council has been invited to offer the mass during the second Sunday of the month. Oct 22: 16TH Anniversary Celebration October 21, 1984 is the date the Supreme Council signed the Charter Certificate of Bangkal-Davao Council 8824. This year, its 16th anniversary, we opened the celebration with a mass offering for our departed Brother Knights at St Paul Parish. The widows were also invited to the mass as well as to the beach party that followed. Oct 23,24,25: Dawn Rosary sponsor at St Paul Church Bangkal-Davao Council was invited to lead the October Dawn Rosary at St Paul Church. SK Ed Tanud-tanud, SK Ben Lara, SK Lando Matuguinas, and Brod Noel Villamor willingly took this opportunity of prayer to Mama Mary. Nov 19: Three New Knights Exemplified Three New Knights joined Bangkal-Davao Council 8824 last Sunday, November 19, 2000. Council membership is now well over a hundred. The Team lead by SK Pops Calio exemplified the following Brother Knights to the First Degree. Mahinay Nov 26: 2nd Degree Exemplification Congratulation to the following eight (8) Brother Knights who were advanced to the Second Degree of the Knights of Columbus. Wilmo Capoy Bro. Zosimo Cruspero Dec 03: 3rd Degree Advancement Congratulation to Sir Roberto Russel for finally achieving the Third Degree Knighthood. The ceremony was held last December 3, 2000 at Regency Hotel. Dec 23: Food Feeding at San Pablo Parish A CORNERED KNIGHT! The push of a dozen bowls literally brought WGK Ben Lara to the edge. The arrozcaldo prepared by SKs Resituto Parasdas and Ruben Capundag must have tasted good as hungry parishioners of San Pablo Parish keep coming back for more. Dec 24: Free-Throw 2000 Championship The first ever Free Throw Championship of Council 8824. Bro Noel Villamor who served as Youth Director spearheaded the event. Dec 24: Christmas Gift-Giving at Central Park Gym We do this every year since our Charter in 1984. This year, about 300 families received rice, sardines, and noodles from the 8824 Knights. Merry Christmas! JANUARY-JUNE 2001 Jan 07: Start of the First-Sunday-of-the-Month Mass Sponsorship at the PM Sisters Chapel. Jan 27: Testimonial Dinner for SK Alberto Solis as Mindanao Deputy and Honorary Director of the Supreme Board of the Knights of Columbus, Philippine Jurisdictions. Jan 28: Participation at San Pablo Fiesta. Feb 04: Food-Feeding at NHA Relocation. Feb 11: Unveiling of Billboard "Davao City is a Drug-Free City". Mar 11: Sports Festival. Held at Calinan gym participated by four councils - Bangkal Council, Mintal Council, Calinan Council and College Council of Calinan. Mar 18: Five 8824 Knights Survived Third-Degree Rites! Warm embraces to Sirs Zosimo Cruspero, Wilmo Capoy, Rene Quirante, Cesar Cabanig, and Noel Villamor for finally achieving full Knighthood. WGK Ben Lara, SK Lino Mariano (FS), and SK Ed Tanudtanud were present in the rites conducted at Phil. Womens College, Davao City. Twenty-one other Knights from neigbouring councils or a total of 26 were elevated to full Knighthood in that beautiful ceremony. Apr 12: Washing of the Feet. Apr 12: The Last Supper. Apr 13-15: Soft Kneelers for Presentation of Mary Chapel. Apr 20-22: 4TH Degree Ferdinand Magellan Prov. Second District XII Convention. Apr 21: Three 8824 Knights along with 53 others entered the honorary 4th Degree in exemplification ceremonies held on the second day of the District Convention. Sir Knights Zosimo Cruspero, Rene Quirante and Noel R. Villamor will join the ranks of Bishop Alfredo Bacquial Assembly #2444. Congratulations! May 16-18: Basic Missionary Seminar/Orientation at St. Paul Parish May 30: Despedida Party of Fr. Dionicio Tabiliran at San Pablo Parish Pavilion. June 3: Lugaw feeding. Mass Offering at Presentation of Mary Chapel followed by food-feeding to Taal Village children and some adults. June 10: Attended the installation of the new St. Paul Parish Priest Fr. Danilo Dotollo and Fr. Dong Axalan. June 12: Independence Day. Fourth Degree floral offering at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal at Rizal Park. June 17: Election of Officers.
