[Dec. 30, 2001] CHRISTMAS GIFT-GIVING

Its Christmas time once more and once again the 8824 Knights is faced with the opportunity of sharing basic gifts to destitute families in the neighbourhood. The challenge is greater this year because it is expected that there will be more who will need the gifts because of the economic and peace crisis.

Two fund-raising projects came to mind, Carolling and Raffle.

carolling Carol choir practice started as early as September. The choir meet Friday nights at Ed Tanudtanud's place where "Salabat" (ginger drink) is bottomless so-to-speak. The soloists were Jose Lagura, Jojo Panares, and Romy Gordo. Wilmo Capoy and Cesar Cabanig were the guitarists. Ben Lara, Bert Russel, Rene Quirante, Lando Matuiguinas, and Noel Villamor were also there. Left photo shows choir in action carolling City Administrator Mr & Mrs Leo delos Santos. For 3 days (2 hours each) we got P4,000. See more ...

gift giving The raffle which was chaired by veteran and former GK Leo Ozoa, went smoothly. 3000 tickets at P20 each were distributed to Brother Knights in November. Many Brothers made sales from 50 to 100 tickets each. When Dec 30 came, only 170 tickets remained unsold and net income was about P30,000. Left photo shows some of the gift packs prepared the day before. We did count them - there were 450 gift packs plus some extra packed on the day of the affair. See more ...
