COUNCIL HISTORY - The Charter (1984)
|
Our council was formed through the initiative of then SK Leonor Lozano
who was then the Charter Grand Knight of the newly formed Saint
Paul-Davao Council 8069. Among the Brother Knights who spearheaded the formation
of Bangkal-Davao Council 8824 were charter members of Saint Paul-Davao
Council who are residents of Bangkal, namely, Narciso Albaran, Armingol
Basilan, Teofilo Bonjoc, Teofilo Venus and other Brother Knights who
belong to other councils but who are likewise residents of Bangkal. They
are Eugenio Balagat, Eduardo Gordo, Romeo Gordo and Rorellano Valdez. These
eight Brother Knights formed the core group who took on the task of
recruiting at least 30 new members which is the required minimum membership to
create a new council. This was early 1984.

The application papers of the council were then submitted to the
Supreme Council at New Haven Connecticut for approval. On October 21,
1984 a Charter Certificate was issued by the Supreme Council with an
approved name of "Talomo Council 8824" presumably because Bangkal is in
the political district of Talomo. However, Bangkal belongs to Saint
Paul Parish instead of Talomo's San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish. An
objection was subsequently made and the council was finally named
BANGKAL-DAVAO COUNCIL 8824.

The Charter Officers were installed by the late SK Leonor Lozano
who was then the District Deputy of District D-II. It was a very
memorable affair especially the Fraternal Fellowship that followed
at the residence of Bro. Ben and Sis. Enric Lara. The wife and children
of the Charter Members were also there.
